Biscuits & Gravy recipe

Biscuits & Gravy recipe

Biscuits & Gravy is a near sacred, ritualistic meal for my family. For years, I had to go with a side dish of pepper gravy that just never satisfied. I had to get to work. I spent months combing over recipes of sausages, making attempts at getting close to the flavor I was raised on. Well, I feel like I found it, and now I'm sharing it with you.

Biscuits

2c flour

1.5Tb sugar

 1Tb Baking powder

¼ tsp Baking soda

.5 tb Salt

1c Oat milk w 1Tb lemon juice

1/2c Crisco (butter flavor tastes best)

Preheat oven to 425*, put lemon juice into oat milk and stir, set aside. Combine dry ingredients in a bowl, then cut in Crisco with a fork or in a food processor. Add oat milk/lemon mixture, mix til dough is shaggy. Roll out with a pin, cut with a biscuit cutter, dip cutter in flour between each cut. Bake til golden brown on top!

Gravy

Prepare Jake's Vegan Morning Sausage with water and oil, per instructions on package, heat in pan.

Add 1/3c flour to mixture, allow to absorb oil and brown.

Add 2c Oat milk to pan, stir regularly. Gravy will thicken. Add oat milk a little at a time as needed to reach desired gravy consistency.

Add Lawry's seasoned salt to taste (about 1/2Tb for me)
